Ron Shoots

Shot again today with the bear fabric. The model just came back from Denver with this great coat. Turned the A/C down to 72 degrees to keep cool.

Here’s another fun background! Who would have thought that the local Maui fabric store would sell a bear print fabric? (There are no lions, tigers, or bears in Hawaii.) Our model Jason was a scream to shoot.

Lighting

Super basic lighting. A flat panel on each side of the model and a 20″ soft white reflector for the main light. I never use a hand-held light meter so I look for just enough highlight along the edges to separate the model from the background.

Worked with a pregnant woman today- both in studio and on location. Pregnancy shots are always needed so whenever I come across a model that is pregnant, we schedule a shoot!

The background came from the local fabric store and we matched her top to one of the fabric colors. (This is a really inexpensive way to change up a shot- these 2 yards of fabric cost about $6.)

Working with the Lens Baby

We then went outside for a few natural light shots. The two on the left were shot with the Lens Baby- a wacky looking lens that creates a very narrow depth of field. The lens is manual only and hard as %^$* to focus! This is the new 3G version. I did get a few shots, takes shooting about 20 images to get one good one… but the effect is so cool! (Maybe I’ll improve with experience!)

No you haven’t missed anything. After being on the road for 17 days, I’m back home… editing a ton of images, organizing gear and planning shoots. Plus we’ve had sideways rain and major wind for the last 5 days. Shoots kick back into gear next week. Then late this month, I’ll be on the road for almost 3 weeks shooting winter lifestyle.
